Night guard is made for patients suffering from bruxism, which is a condition when patients gnash their teeth during sleep and cause them to eventually abrade. Such abrasion can, after a certain time, fully eat away at teeth. For this reason a night guard is made for those patients, preventing the grinding. Its shape resembles the protection worn by boxers. First, we make an impression of the upper jaw of the patient, then in the laboratory, on the basis of that imprint, we make a splint, which should ideally be resting on the teeth and create a kind of vacuum, so that, during the night, it would not wobble or fall out. In time, the splint helps reduce the contraction of muscles in the jaw and the consequences thereof, so it is imperative that the splint is worn every night.
